Questionnaire Analysis

I carried out a survey on our college magazine and found that 95% of my target audience don’t read it. This shows that the magazine is currently failing to meet the needs of its target audience. People said that they would like to see news, events, jobs, college information, x-box, sport and fashion in the magazine, so it is clearly not using these things. If it was then more people would be reading it. A way of improving this would be to advertise fashion, game and sport shops and preferably ones which allow student discount, as well as including local job advertisements suitable for the age of the target audience.
70% of people who took the survey said that they would pay 50p for the magazine, while others said that they would prefer for it to be free. For this reason it would be a good idea to make the first issue free like a trial issue and then, once it’s clear that people are enjoying it, to start charging 50p. This will help to pay for the production of the magazine. Also people said that free things would encourage them to read the magazine, so once people began paying for it some of the money could go towards funding prizes for competitions in the magazine which are related to the things which people said they would like to see in it.  People told us that they would also like the magazine to be more colourful, so it would be a good idea to look at the current colours used to make sense of why they are not appealing/ attractive enough.
65% of people said that they would like to see subject information in the magazine, so although this means that there should maybe be a page dedicated to this, there shouldn’t be more than one or two pages because it may put the other 45% of people off. Most people said that they would like the magazine to come out monthly. This is good because it would be cheaper to put money into a monthly magazine than a weekly one, and there would be more money to improve the quality of each issue. However, they may be a lot of information to cram into one issue. 85% of people said that they would like to see a ‘What’s on?’ guide in the magazine, so there could be a page dedicated to upcoming college/local events.
